Whether
you have a scared or active child, our
team will make your children feel relaxed to actually enjoy their visits to
our office. We administer the most advanced treatments in children's
dentistry, and our kids’ dentists provide them with thoughtfulness and gentle care.
We teach children how to take care of their teeth at home with proper
brushing and flossing techniques. We enjoy their first visit between the
ages of two and three, and look forward to seeing them change and grow each
year.
It is our goal to ensure all generations of children grow
up without fear of dental visits. Parents have been impressed that their
kids enjoy coming to our office, and we are successful in helping them with
a child who is very active or fearful.
It is important to be aware how susceptible children's teeth are to
cavities. There are reasons for this easy development of cavities.
Children often eat throughout the day, referred to as grazing. Every time
food is chewed, acids are produced in the mouth. Continual exposure to acids
from frequent eating adds to the possibility of more cavities developing.
Kids do not always brush properly or thoroughly. If teeth are not
cleaned properly on a daily basis, bacteria and acids build up, leading to
the start of cavities. Depending on the type of foods frequently consumed
and the quality of daily hygiene, more cavities will develop at a rapid
rate.
We advise parents to oversee that children develop proper
brushing and flossing and that they do so each and every day. We recommend
better, more nutritious food choices, and one application of a dental
sealant to mineralize the teeth and reduce the chances of decay setting in.
Children do not always clean their teeth as well as needed. There are
grooves and contours in the back teeth that often get missed while brushing.
When plaque forms on these teeth, decay will set in. Any amount of decay
means a restoration will be necessary.
With one application of a
dental sealant, the chances of decay starting can be greatly reduced. The
treatment is quick, easy, and has been proven to be very effective in cavity
prevention.
First, the teeth are cleaned and then sterilized. One
thin coating of the sealant is applied. It is bonded to the teeth with a
curing light. As the sealant is clear or white in color, it is never
visible. And that is the whole procedure that is effective both for children
and adolescents to help them keep their natural teeth throughout their life.
